Azhitman:

Excellent post! The beginning of your write up---first few paragraphs, about your G-35 finally vindicates a lot of the things I have said here on this forum over the past few months about the G-35's reliability, handling, and so. Many had disagreed with me and I thought i was just being a little over exuberant about the car (of course i am, sometimes). Now, I feel really good about all the stuff I have said.

Most of all, the advice you provided in the install will be a valuable resource for me when I get ready to install my vortech. Thanks for the write - up.

No, it's a 6MT. 220whp is close to a 20% driveline loss.

But the 2003 - 6mt Coupe is 280 hp not 260.. The sedan was 260..

280 x .8 = 224. That's in the range.

BTW, Greg, that was anexcellent write up. Very good job.

20% loss on a 6mt is still seems kind of high. Most of the dyno slips on dragtimes.com for stock rev ups are in the mid 240s. There is only an 18 hp difference between them and the 1st gens. It would seek that 10-15 HP gets lost in translation.

Looking at the dirty engine I would take a stab that the car probably needed some tuning after 60k miles

I have done some research and found that stock G35s pull from 225 - 250 whp on the Dyno..

With Gregs mods it should have pulled much higher then what he got...

It must be those heavy *** 20" wheels... I remember a thread saying it project G35 was only getting 14.5 in the 1/4th?

Something like that.

As I've said before, some mods simply do not add hp like they claim. Dyno numbers can be manipulated and it's hard to really determine if something really adds 5-15hp or not between dyno runs.

Magazine tuning is a far cry from real world numbers. Stock 03 G35's won''t see that kind of numbers (unless they're "corrected" figures).

First off, my 20's weigh the same as my OEM 18's. They're forged.

Second, if you'd read, you'd see that wheels have no effect on a chassis dyno as they're 6 feet away from the car during testing.

The Kinetix plenum may partly be the culprit, as well as the OEM clutch with 67K miles, or the fact that I'm only seeing 7psi, rather than the 8-8.5 I should be getting. Possibly belt slippage, or again, fubar clutch.

Yup, all dyno's I have seen (and I have seen a few) show that 03-04 Skylines typically rate around 210 HP at the wheels. I got 225HP at the RW with a Nismo exhaust (no dyno before).

Excellent right up, I know this has probably been asked a dozen times but how much does the Vortech typically cost? The stock ECU had no issues with the extra power?

I have seen the kit for around $4300..

You're looking at 5K with a Utec & injectors.

Is it the V1 or V2?

They only seem to have V2 on their site for around $6k and boasts alot more gain then what PG got, so I'm assuming its a different kit?

Nice write-up Greg. I think you will find you can get much more out of you VQ once you ditch the FMU and Split Second box. We've done about a dozen or so Vortech installs on G's and Z's at our shop here in NH. Some of our customers have stayed with the Vortech fuel solution, others have opted to upgrade. We've had alot of good luck running the Greddy EU or AEM F/IC along with injectors and a 255 pump. We've seen some pretty high gains, and boy is that a fun car with a bit more power! We also use a Dynapack to tune with, it's a great piece of machinery. Here's a plot from one of the G's we've done. It's running the Greddy EU, injectors and a Walboro 255. He also has the 2.87 pulley and cams. This may not be the best example because this is a fully built motor. On stock internals we don't push the cars quite as far. This is a daily driven car, and is tuned for 93 octane.

Thanks Tom -

Yeah, I'll go the Walbro and injectors down the line, seems like less potential "weak links".

We only have 91 octane here, and they add 10% ethanol as well, so I'll still have to stick with a conservative tune.

I'm pretty happy with the results thus far... I'm sure it'd be a hell of a lot more fun if tyhe ambient air temp at intercooler level wasn't 130 degrees!

Also, going to have to do some creative ducting or replace the front bumper, since most of the IC is blocked by the stock bumper design.

Hey Greg,

Why not go with the Turbonetics fix for the G bumper? They use 2 smaller elec fans mounted right to the IC. On the few G's we've done with those kits, the fix seems to be working just fine. These are on daily driven 400ish rwhp cars. Granted we don't get to quite the temp as you all do in AZ, but it still gets warm for some of these guys in Boston traffic! lol Here's a pic of that kit for reference.

Oh and btw, us vert guys are missin the good word of the Hitman in the vert forum!

Good luck with the G!

Not a bad idea - I hadn't even paid attention to that option... Maybe I'll do some deflectors AND a pair of fans.

Awesome write up Greg! I'm looking forward to the follow up after you swap in some parts and turn up the boost.

For those of you asking about pricing give your local authorized Vortech dealer a call. You can find one here:
http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/dealers.php

Our kits come with your choice of a V2 SC-Trim like the one Greg has, or you can opt for a NEW V3 SC-Trim. The V3 is self lubricating and does not require you to run oil lines, or tap the oil pan. Pricing for the V3 kit is the same as the V2.
V3 info:
http://www.vortechsupercharger...=News

We also offer tuner kits with a T-Trim for those of you looking to make 500+ HP.

14.23 @ 99.4 was what C&D got with a professional driver in a base Coupe 6MT.

http://www.motortrend.com/ofth....html

Mid-14's aren't bad considering mine is loaded out with every available option (Navi, Premium, Aero), plus some additional weight added in suspension mods and a shot clutch.

Looking forward to getting some track times with boost.

Hello Frank:

Howdy! I once sent an e-mail to Vortech about their products and I never received a response. First of all, can you give me the exact Vortech Supercharger kit that will work well with a 2007 G-35 Coupe 6MT?

In addition, the V3 you noted, seems to be available only for a few cars, and the G-35 ins't on that list. Any info on when this will be available for the G-35 Coupe?

Hey Jack03,

I apologize that you never got a response.

We don't have a complete system for an 07 G35 as of yet. I'm working with engineering to get one done. We thought the 07 G35 was going to have the VQ35HR motor like the 07 350Z. Well as you know it didn't, it came with the VQ35DE. The G37 ended up with the HR motor similar layout to the 07 350Z HR.

We need to update the list on our website. The V3 is now available for the 03-06 350Z/G35 kits.

If anyone with an 07 G35 coupe (stock) in so cal reads this we need a car for R&D. You'll get a discount on the kit and FREE installation. We'll need the car for up to 4 weeks. Give me a call for more details 805-247-0226 Ext.225

Frank:

Thanks for the info. I actually do think much of what works for the 05 and 06 G-35 Coupe will work for the 07 G-35 Coupe. I say this because, I used the after market air intake for an 05 and 06, the factory brakes for the 05 and 06, the same after market plenum spacer for an o5 and 06, the same lower plenum for an 05 and 06, and the same after market exhaust system for the 05 and 06 model years.

I doubt there is any real difference except for cosmetic ones between the 05, 06, and 07 model year G-35 Coupe. I have actually heard of people installing the Vortech chargers for the 05 and 06 on their 2007 G-35 Coupe model year, and it all seems to work exceptionally well. I may be wrong about thesimilarities, but, I have not seen any real difference between the 05, 06, and 07 model years which all have the rev up engine.

I am also in the process of discussing with one of your listed dealers on the cost of the superchargers and installation. I am waiting to hear from them by next week.
