Hi - I think you can put the individual MP3's on a DVD as well (which would give you about 4.7GB or close to 1000 songs). You don't need to rip them as CD-Audio files, just make a "data disc" and copy the MP3's over.

NOPE...there is no way to copy MP3's to the music box. You have to use CD audio disks to use the gracenote feature to tag it. Also, there is not a DVD laser, even with NAV. Instead, Infiniti uses a hard drive with pre-loaded data for the maps and voice recognition. They set aside 9.3G of space for music. Now there is an Ipod connector that allows you to control/charge you Ipod via the music system. Finally, there is a compact flash slot for digital music...but it will only reconize 2G size cards. (or the first 2G of data on a larger card) Hope this helps!

cd audio (in dash or changer) will be the best sound quality. All other formats are compressed.

+1 on cd being best for audio reproductionUnless you can just be there 'live' for every song you'd like to hear. Man, I wish I was 'uber' rich. I would have a concert every single day with one of my favorite musicians each day....sorry, I'm back...

Wonder if it is Variable Bit Rate (VBR) or a constant 132. Either way it is going to be nice having music on the HD. Thanks Joe

It is! After you go through the hassle of ripping CD's...takes about 10 min per disk.

Thanks for the fast responses :-) Just another one of the reasons I am looking forward to getting this car. Such a good feature. The 10 minutes per CD is worth not having to keep them in the car as well as having to remember to grab your Ipod when you leave the house. I emailed you as well about the VPP info if you had any left. If not understand. :-)

Hiya Joe, I didn't seem to get it. I don't know if my Optonline is filtering out some yahoo email or what. I have an alt email of nydennis@gmail.com as well as nydennis@yahoo.comBoth my Mom and Dad grew up in Commack. Dad grew up on Terry Lane, and Mom grew up I believe on Palmer or something. Near the Mayfair shopping center I think.

You can play straight from a DVD. I was trying to copy MP3 to the MBox from DATA CDs/DVDs, i couldn't. I was able to play them though. I didnt know it has to be Audio CD. I have an ipod in my car at all times, but i wanted to use the mbox just in case one day i leave the ipod home for any reason, and having 9G in the car, why not use it. I think is a little useless when you have to burn an Audio CD in order to copy it to hard drive. Most people buy their music online nowadays. No wonder it only has 9G. I've seen Fords with 40G, not sure about their files transfer limitations.

If I can get a VPP number and get into the dealer this week, I will have some time to look at ways of getting into the system in order to transfer data. I am a little concerned, however, that is the system uses a proprietary ripping format, it may also have it's own system code. Joe- do you happen to have any insight? -Flanagan

It's locked down pretty well...they sound good though. Sometimes it's better to just go with the flow and do what they want. Would it be cool if the HD was bigger or a way to transfer MP3's...but the car does have a flash card port and an iPod interface. Plenty of music storage if you ask me!
