Its Ester engine oil. I am unable at this time to find out much about it, but I am trying to make a few phone calls and if I learn anything relevant I will pass it along. As for use in the G35 I really do not know. Since I don't know exactly what is different with this in comparison to conventional or synthetic oil. I will also look into that and keep you posted.

A little research shows that it's a group V synthetic.Esters provide better lubrication because they are "magnetically" attracted to each other (molecules) and to the metalic surfaces in the engine. Motul has some great info about esters http://www.motul.com.au/fact_sheets/estel_oil.html Essentially what the article says is that normal oil will only protect metal to metal contact while the engine is running. Ester oil, because of it's attraction to the metal surface, will continue to create a film on the metalic surfaces even when the engine is not running. So in addition to it's ability to be "custom tailored" it prevents excessive start-up wear (this is usually where most of the engine wear comes into play).

Also if you own a g37c or g37sedan you will void your power train warranty if you don't use this type of oil. edit: curious to know where you can buy this or motul 5w30 ester oil, infiniti shops have the oil change for 110$ a hit, but if you supply your own oil they charge you 24.95$ w/oil filter.

Ok so word is... Anything with VVEL comes factory with ester, all cars can use it as it has different friction modifiers that actually improve fuel economy by reducing friction inside the engine. Personally I have yet to put this in a G35 or anything other than a 37 at this point but I will update again if there are any results. The verdict is good at this point If anyone here decides to make the swap let us know I am very curious.

Steve, can you post the part number for the oil. I want to see if my local Nissan dealer has it yet. No Infiniti dealer for 200 miles. I think I will make the switch to this in the wifes Xterra here in a few weeks. Then in my G in a few months when it is time to chage the oil again.

Thanks Steve. I'm afraid the results will have to wait till I change the oil on the G. The wife will not notice anything on her X. She may pay attention if it gets better mileage. But it will take me monitoring it to find out. And I never get in her X. But have no fear. I will report on the G's mileage/performance chsnges.

If Infiniti does your oil changes will they use this oil or do you have to ask for it and pay out the butt?

At this point is it highly recommended for all G37,FX50,and Nissan Maxima models using VVEL. This will remain the owners responsibility to maintain their vehicles properly. The stuff works, and coupled with the ECM reflash will allow your G to run properly without noise.

That seems like something the dealer will deal with individually. I know that at mine it is offered to the G37 drivers and not the default. I think it will become standard once supply is increased and cost per unit goes down.

To piggieback Sentient's info, I can definitely vouch for esters and Motul specifically. I've run Motul 8100 for years and can verify the protection, longevity, smoothness and power. I haven't pushed it, but I know some Audi guys who have gone 15K on it, and had it tested with no issues. It's about twice the price of say M1 (~$10-$12/L), but if you're looking for the specific benefits it offers, it can't be beat. Besides, if you go ~2X the duration, it all evens out on cost. Just piling it on. PS - The brake fluid is great too.

Nope there are significant differences between dino/conventional synthetic and ester. The adhesion characteristics of the ester are significantly improved. The VVEL system requires this to keep everything lubricated. It makes sense since the new design of the head has many components that have not been used before. There are benefits to this oil that other more conventional types cannot compete with.

Hey Jerry, Some of the 37s that have a rattle on accel there is a reflash as part of the update with the ester. It rearranges the parameters for part throttle accell. No loss of power or any other driveability related issues with the reflash, in case your curious. EDIT- this is my 1000 post. LOL

Rant- Ok so you spend 40+ thousand dollars on a car, keep it in prestine looking condition both inside and out. When it comes time to change to the oil you cheap out and just get the regular. Seriously take pride in your car and treat it well. The initial cost of the oil is one thing but if you plan on keeping the car for any period of time is it not worth it. Stop mistreating such a great car, there are techs everywhere who cringe knowing the vvel system doesn't have a traditional intake cam and you are actually loosing power and efficiency using cheap oil. Just don't let price be the sole determining factor in your automotive maintaince.

I have a brand new G37 with 4,000 miles on it and I went in today for an oil change. I asked the tech about the Ester oil and he said when breaking in a car you do not want to run this kind of oil. He would only recommend this oil during high mileage. Any thoughts?

Search around I have found varying prices at many dealers. It is not cheap by any means and I really hope the price will drop to get more people on board if it is the right stuff to use and I feel it is (although I have yet to see published proof of this, on Infiniti vehicles) Just a hint- Nissan dealers use the same oil and have a different price matrix

okay I got a couple of questions for my G37S1. Going with this Ester oil does it make the car run faster? 2. I got a little over 6,000 miles on the G37 good time to switch? 3. long term impact for the engine? 4. I got no noise but using conventional oil to break in the engine, ready for a switch if this is called for the G37. 5. What is the average cost per quart? Thanks G37 Man

I would shop areound. But the Nissan dealer in town is the only one for 45+ miles in any direction. And no Infiniti dealers for over 100+ miles. So I quess I'm stuck paying the price I get at the local Nissan dealer.

Most of the places (at least around here) have little to no profit on that, at this point they are just trying to get people to use it. The supply cost is really high on it. I really wonder if the company actually expects people to shell out that kind of money and still stick to 3750 intervals. I would like to find a replacment for it from the same manufacturer. Well see maybe it's just because it's new.
